Barnes: 'Burnley ready for Europa challenge'

Burnley forward Ashley Barnes says that reaching the Europa League would be a huge achievement for his side, with one more point needed for a top-seven finish.

Ashley Barnes has said that he is relishing the prospect of competing in the Europa League with Burnley following their "fantastic season".

Despite being held to a goalless draw by Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon, the Clarets require just one more point from their final two matches to seal a place in the qualifying stage of the competition.

Not since 1967 have Burnley competed on the continent, but Barnes insists that he and his teammates are prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.

"Of course it will be difficult but it's another challenge we will be ready for," he told Sky Sports News. "It's going to be another tough season, we have still got two games left this year. Hopefully, we can finish on a high and come back next year ready.

"We obviously have to qualify for the group stages so it's going to be difficult but it's a challenge we look forward to. This has been a fantastic season. If you look at the teams above us, it's an unbelievable achievement to be behind those six teams.

"How we've competed and stay seventh, despite not winning for 10 games, shows what an achievement we've done this season."

Seventh-placed Burnley, who are six points better off than closest challengers Everton and boast a superior goal difference, take on Arsenal and Bournemouth in their final two matches.
