Result: Shaun Maloney earns Hull City draw at Bristol City

Hull City substitute Shaun Maloney earns his side a 1-1 draw against Bristol City that keeps them at the top of the Championship.

Hull City remain at the top of the Championship after they drew 1-1 against Bristol City at Ashton Gate this afternoon.

Steve Cotterill's men started strongly after Jonathan Kodjia pounced on a Michael Dawson mistake, but the Frenchman's volley was pulled wide of the goal.

The Robins then tested Alan McGregor in the Hull goal as Luke Freeman attempted to curl the ball home but the Scotsman was equal to the effort.

The Tigers came close themselves midway through the first half as Harry Maguire was allowed to push forward unopposed, but the centre-back's long-range effort was tipped over the bar by Frank Fielding.

Bristol then took the lead after a corner led to a goal-mouth scramble that fell to the feet of Kieran Agard, who reacted quickly to bundle the ball home from a few yards out.

Steve Bruce's side could have gone in at the break level had Jake Livermore's volley from inside the box not been cleared off the line by Elliott Bennett.

Hull did equalise in the second half as Shaun Maloney gambled on a Mohammed Diame flick-on and the winger kept his cool to beat Fielding one on one.

Substitute Sone Aluko had a chance to put Hull into the lead with three minutes remaining after Andy Robertson found him in space but the winger could not find the target.

Sam Clucas missed with a free header in added time as Bristol held on for a point that moves them up to 19th in the table.

The draw increases Hull's lead at the top of the Championship to a point, with Brighton playing later this afternoon.
