Bristol City coach Lee Johnson believes that Nottingham Forest could become the next Wolverhampton Wanderers, following their heavy investment in the transfer window.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has insisted that Nottingham Forest can replicate the feats of Wolverhampton Wanderers next season in the Championship.

Forest have already broken their transfer record this summer after splashing £13m on Benfica midfielder Joao Carvalho, while bringing in his teammate Diogo Goncalves and Michael Dawson of Hull City.

Aitor Karanka's side finished 17th in the second division of English football last season, but will be looking to push for a promotion charge after investing heavily in the transfer window.

"It could be another Wolves scenario," Johnson told reporters.

"I've felt that there's going to be a correction in the market. That's for sure. Obviously I'm in and about it, in phone calls, and see all the stuff that comes in on Twitter and the players that we're supposedly linked to and stuff like that. And you look at a lot of these clubs and you think that at least three or four will be embargoed due to financial restraints and restrictions at the start of the year and I think that's where we can really rise up.

"It's the secret spending, really. It's the sheer mass of the wage bills and the agent fees that go out, and that's where this club has always been very sensible and very sustainable."

Wolves finished top of the Championship last season as super agent Jorge Mendes brought the likes of Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota to the Midlands club.
