Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says that his club's achievement of staying in the Premier League should not be 'underestimated'.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has claimed that his team's achievement of staying in the Premier League should not be 'underestimated'.

The Cherries earned promotion to the top flight for the first time in the club's history last summer.

The club were tipped to go back into the Championship, but they secured safety a few weeks ago and currently sit 16th in the table on 42 points.

Howe believes that Bournemouth's achievement is that much bigger given that Norwich City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have all been relegated.

"When you look at the size of the clubs that have gone down - their history, their fan base, the size of the grounds - it does bring home the size of the achievement that our players have done," Sky Sports News quotes Howe as saying.

"At the start of the season no-one would have given us a chance of staying up and then we got the injuries and we had a choice which way we went from that moment.

"We went and stood up and faced it and have done really well and I don't think we should underestimate what the players have done when you consider the pressure. It was nice not to be involved [in the relegation battle] in that moment."

Bournemouth's final game of the season will be against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
