Blackburn Rovers supporters confirm a new protest aimed at club owners Venky's.

Blackburn Rovers supporters have confirmed that they will stage a new protest aimed at the club's owners Venky's later this month.

The so-called '1875' protest - in honour of the club's founding date - calls on fans to not take to their seats until the 18th minute and depart the ground in the 75th minute of Rovers' clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Ewood Park on September 29.

The game is being televised by Sky Sports and supporters hope that a mass protest in front of a national audience will convince the controversial Indian owners to sell the club.

"1875 witnessed the birth of one of England's oldest clubs, which for 141 years has gone on to be England's most successful town team," organiser Glen Mullan told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"2010 witnessed the arrival of the Rao family, who promised to respect and build on the club's famous heritage. Six years later, through complete negligence and incompetence, they have almost destroyed the club.

"The televised home fixture against Wolves gives the fans the opportunity to let their feelings be known to the wider football family. The 1875 protest, which will see supporters only take their seats in the 18th minute, and leave them again in the 75th minute, is being organised to deliver the message that supporters of Blackburn Rovers are united and want Venky's to sell the club."

Venky's took over Rovers in November 2010 with the club 14th in the Premier League, but the side were relegated to the Championship the following season and currently find themselves in the second-tier relegation zone.
