The 22-year-old qualifies to play for Scotland through a grandparent.

Birmingham boss Garry Monk has confirmed the club have been contacted by Scotland manager Alex McLeish about the possibility of an international call-up for Che Adams.

McLeish told BBC Scotland on Wednesday he had been watching Adams, who has scored 19 goals in the Sky Bet Championship this season.

The striker qualifies to represent Scotland through a grandparent and McLeish wants Adams to pledge his allegiance to the country, believing doing so would "enhance his career".

"Alex rang me (during) the last international break and enquired about Che," said Monk, in a short video on the club's Twitter account taken from his pre-match press conference.

"Of course, the decision will always come down to the player. At that point, though, having spoken to Che, he really wants to concentrate on his club football.

"He was in a good run of form at that point, he still is in a good run of form, and he wants to continue that. At the end of the day, it will come down to the player and Che will decide. A big part of that decision is him concentrating on his club football.

"I haven't spoken recently to Che but it will be down to him and about how he feels. I'd always support a player in whatever decision they make."

Leicester-born Adams, 22, has previously declined an invite to play for the Scotland Under-21 side, while also turning down the opportunity to play for his father's homeland of Antigua.
