Result: Robert Lewandowski comes off bench to score five in Bayern Munich triumph

Robert Lewandowski comes off the bench at half time to score five goals in nine minutes as Bayern Munich thrash Wolfsburg 5-1 in the Bundesliga.

Robert Lewandowski came off the bench to score five goals in nine minutes as Bayern Munich thrashed Wolfsburg 5-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Trailing at the interval to the side who finished second in the Bundesliga last season, Lewandowski ensured it was a memorable evening as he shocked Dieter Hecking and his players to extend Bayern's 100% record in the league.

Predictably, it was Pep Guardiola's side who dominated possession for long spells of the first half but they were unable to slice open the visiting defence as the likes of former Bayern centre-back Dante impressed.

Thomas Muller threatened to break the deadlock in spectacular fashion when he turned into space before firing just past the post from 25 yards.

Wolfsburg's resilience without the ball paid off when they countered superbly to take the lead through Daniel Caligiri, who collected Julian Draxler's chipped pass before beating Manuel Neuer with an unstoppable half-volley.

Douglas Costa was the most dangerous Bayern player throughout the first half, and he came close to getting his side back on level terms with a powerful strike which forced Diego Benaglio into a good save.

Despite the response from the hosts, Wolfsburg almost doubled their lead when Neuer's eagerness to meet the ball outside of his box caused problems as he eventually lost possession close to the halfway line, before seeing Josuha Guilavogui clip the outside of the post with his first-time effort with Bayern's defenders helpless.

The momentum of the match changed when Guardiola introduced Javi Martinez and Lewandowski at the start of the second half, and it was the latter who was responsible for stunning the visitors with a remarkable spell.

Bayern were level six minutes after the interval when Muller raced into the box before allowing the ball to roll to Lewandowski, who slotted home from close range.

It was just the start as space on the edge of the box allowed the Polish striker to pick out the bottom corner with an emphatic finish, before the substitute completed his hat-trick by firing home after being denied by Benaglio.

There was just no hope of a response from a shell-shocked Wolfsburg defence as Lewandowski arrived in the box late to make it 4-1 with another superb finish from Costa's cross.

As the Bayern fans celebrated the incredible comeback, they were treated to a moment of brilliance from Lewandowski, who scored his fifth in nine minutes with a fantastic volley from just inside the box.

Guardiola watched his striker come close to scoring again just a few minutes later when he connected with Costa's cross, only to see Ricardo Rodriguez clear the ball off the line.

It was the most comfortable of finishes for the home side on a dramatic evening as Wolfsburg failed to produce any kind of response to the Lewandowski performance.
