Bayern Munich charged by UEFA after pitch invasion and offensive banner

UEFA charges Bayern Munich after fans invaded the pitch and an "illicit" banner was seen in the crowd at the Allianz Arena during the Champions League match against Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich have been charged by UEFA over a pitch invasion and displaying an offensive banner in Wednesday night's Champions League first-leg defeat to Real Madrid.

Following the 2-1 loss at the Allianz Arena, one supporter ran onto the field of play and grabbed the shirt of Bayern forward Franck Ribery, while another took a photograph with Real's players.

UEFA announced that the pitch invasion charge, and the one regarding the banner, would be heard by its control, ethics and disciplinary body on Thursday, May 31.

Bayern took an early lead against the defending European champions, but Zinedine Zidane's side came from behind to take a 2-1 aggregate lead into next week's second leg at the Bernabeu.

In 2014, following a Champions League tie against Arsenal in which Bayern fans displayed a banner reading 'Gay Gunners', the German club were hit with a fine and ordered to close part of the stadium for their quarter-final tie against Manchester United.
