Frenkie de Jong calls for Ajax and Netherlands teammate Matthijs de Ligt to join him at Barcelona next season.

Frenkie de Jong has urged teammate Matthijs de Ligt to join him at Barcelona next season.

De Jong and De Ligt were both outstanding for Ajax during the 2018-19 campaign, helping the Dutch outfit to a league and cup double, in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

De Jong has already agreed a deal to join the Spanish champions in this summer's transfer window.

However, De Ligt's future is up in the air, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly now leading the race for the 19-year-old, who has also been linked with Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool.

"Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens. It's up to him. I don't know, it's his decision. You have to ask him about it but I hope he comes to Barca," De Jong told reporters.

De Jong and De Ligt both impressed as the Netherlands recorded a 3-1 win over England in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals on Thursday night to set up a final with Portugal this weekend.
