Barcelona suffer blow in Xavi pursuit

Barcelona will seemingly miss out on appointing Xavi as their next manager after the club legend penned a new contract at Al-Sadd.

Xavi has agreed to pen a new contract at Al-Sadd, effectively ending the possibility of him becoming the next manager of Barcelona.

With Quique Setien likely to leave Camp Nou during the summer, Xavi has been tipped to become the new occupant of the main seat in the dugout.

However, despite the club legend having previously acknowledged that he wishes to return to Camp Nou in the future, it appears that a reunion will not take place in 2020.

Al-Sadd have announced that the former midfielder has agreed to spend the next campaign at the Qarari club.

Despite the setback, Barcelona officials are likely to monitor Xavi's time at Al-Sadd during what many perceive to be a transitional period for the Catalan giants.
