Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann is reportedly willing to defer a portion of his wages into future years of his contract to help ease the club's financial issues.

Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann is reportedly open to the idea of deferring some of his wages until future years in order to help ease the club's financial issues.

The Spanish giants have been hit hard by the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and are searching for ways to reduce their wage bill for the foreseeable future.

The senior squad have already agreed to one round of pay cuts when the pandemic first struck in March, but talks over another 30% salary reduction have been rejected by the players.

However, some of the players - including Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong - are reportedly willing to help out in other ways, and Deportes Cuatro reports that Griezmann could also help to ease the immediate financial burden by deferring some of his salary.

The 29-year-old reportedly sees the agreement as a way to both help his club and secure his longer-term future at Camp Nou, with his contract still having four years to run.

Barca yesterday announced that key quartet Ter Stegen, De Jong, Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet have all agreed new contracts with the club.
