Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone hints that Barcelona striker Luis Suarez was fortunate to escape a red card during Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has insinuated that Luis Suarez was fortunate to escape a red card during Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg at Camp Nou.

Atletico took the lead in the 25th minute of the all-Spanish affair when Fernando Torres netted his 11th career goal against Barcelona, but the striker was sent from the field 10 minutes later after picking up a second yellow card.

A second-half double from Suarez saw Barcelona claim a 2-1 victory on the night, but the Uruguay international was involved in a number of off-the-field incidents, including clashes with Juanfran and Lucas Hernandez.

Simeone remained coy when questioned on the performance of the German referee, but has hinted that he was not pleased with Felix Brych's conduct.

"I cannot open my mouth and say what I think. I must be respectful to everyone," Simeone told reporters. "Two [Suarez] clashes? There were more than two, at least."

Atletico have now lost their last seven games against Barcelona in all competitions.
