Burnley are reportedly prepared to offer Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood a return to the Premier League.

Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood has reportedly been offered the opportunity to link up with Burnley next season.

Westwood made 32 appearances for Villa last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, but it remains to be seen which players will be part of Roberto Di Matteo's plans as he tries to build a squad capable of an instant return to the top flight.

According to the Express & Star, Burnley are prepared to test the water with a bid for the 26-year-old as they look to strengthen the middle of the park ahead of the new campaign which gets underway in August.

The Clarets are yet to make any signings since promotion from the Championship, and with Joey Barton having linked up with Rangers, manager Sean Dyche is likely to be keen to start his summer business sooner rather than later.
