Result: AS Monaco beat Angers to close gap on top three

AS Monaco claim a 1-0 win over Angers thanks to a first-half strike from on-loan forward Mario Pasalic.

Mario Pasalic's first-half strike against Angers has extended AS Monaco's unbeaten Ligue 1 run to six games.

The Red and Whites were able to hold on in the second half to see out the 1-0 win, which lifts them to within two points of their surprise-package opponents in third place.

Billy Ketkeophomphone proved to be the visiting side's shining light in the opening quarter of the match, narrowly missing the target with one attempt and testing Danijel Subasic soon after with another.

Monaco soon stepped things up, though, coming close to making a breakthrough when Lacina Traore was inches away from converting match-winner Pasalic's cross.

The Red and Whites, and Pasalic in particular, did not have to wait much longer to break the deadlock as the Chelsea loanee converted at the back post after Joao Moutinho's free kick was headed back across goal.

Rony Lopes looked to be Monaco's best hope of finding a second, getting in a couple of early shots following the restart which Ludovic Butelle had to be equal to.

Up the other end of the field, Subasic himself had to be alert to thwart the danger of Thomas Mangani from long range as Angers looked to level things up.

Chances were kept to a minimum for large parts of the second half, however, meaning that Monaco were comfortably able to see things through.

Angers, now with two defeats in their last 11 league outings, are locked on 22 points with Lyon and Saint-Etienne in the higher echelons of the division.
