Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tips Shkodran Mustafi to remain at the club beyond the current season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has predicted that Shkodran Mustafi will remain at the club this summer.

The German, who has come under fire from sections of the Gunners' fanbase for his performances this season, was rumoured to leave the Emirates Stadium in January.

Wenger, however, has tipped Mustafi to stay in North London for the long haul and prove the doubters wrong.

"He wasn't close [to leaving]," Sky Sports News quotes the Frenchman as saying.

"He is a young defender who has had ups and downs. I believe overall he has potential. He is one of the guys who is committed and goes for the challenges."

Last Friday, it was revealed that Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years at the helm.
