Watford have reportedly gone the same way as Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion in pulling out of the race to sign £16m-rated defender Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal.

Watford have abandoned plans to sign full-back Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal after being put off by his hefty valuation, according to a report.

The 27-year-old recently re-emerged as a target for the Hornets after West Bromwich Albion made public that they would take their initial interest no further.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis felt that Gibbs's price tag, thought to be around £16m, was too much and instead turned his sights elsewhere.

The Daily Mail suggests that Watford will now go the same way, as the 10-cap England international has less than 12 months left to run on his current Emirates Stadium contract and is unlikely to feature regularly this season.

Gibbs is one of a number of players Arsenal are supposedly trying to offload this summer, along with Jack Wilshere, Calum Chambers, Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy.
