Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce reportedly makes an attempt to bring Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Villa Park.

Aston Villa are reportedly trying to bring Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Villa Park.

Wilshere, whose current Arsenal contract will expire next summer, spent last season on loan at Bournemouth after being deemed surplus to requirements by Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger.

The 25-year-old missed the end of last season after suffering a broken leg, but has since returned to fitness and represented Arsenal's Under-23 team on Monday night.

It is widely thought that Wilshere's Arsenal career is over, however, with Newcastle United one of a number of teams credited with an interest in the England international.

According to The Mirror, Championship club Villa, who signed John Terry earlier this summer, are also in the mix, with head coach Steve Bruce making an enquiry for the out-of-favour midfielder.

Wilshere came through the youth system at Arsenal, and has made 159 appearances for the Gunners since debuting during the 2008-09 campaign.
