Arsenal reportedly hold talks with Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno over a possible £22m deal, although they could face competition from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno over a proposed £22m transfer this summer.

The Gunners are understood to be in the market for a new shot-stopper following an uncharacteristically error-prone season from Petr Cech and lingering doubts over David Ospina as a number one.

Arsenal's own future remains uncertain with Arsene Wenger's successor yet to be named, but the club are still pressing on with transfer business and Bild reports that they have earmarked Leno as a potential target.

The 26-year-old has reportedly held talks with Arsenal after turning down a move to Napoli, although the Premier League side could face competition from Atletico Madrid, who are on the lookout for a potential replacement for the in-demand Jan Oblak.

Leno is thought to have a £22m release clause in his contract, which Arsenal see as good value for money for a Germany international goalkeeper.

The player has been at Leverkusen since 2011, making more than 300 first-team appearances for the club.
