Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi says that he is happy and thankful to be playing for the Gunners despite a testing season for the Premier League club.

Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has insisted that he remains happy at the club despite recent criticism for some of his performances for the Gunners.

The Germany defender was criticised for his part in defensive errors that arguably cost Arsenal during the club's 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United, but Mustafi has since responded by stating that he is enjoying his time at the Emirates.

"I am thankful I can play at such a club. I want to play where I am happy," Mustafi told Kicker. "And I am happy here. Even more so because I usually started when I was fit."

"[My season] was a bit like Arsenal's. With highs and lows. But ultimately, I performed.

"I don't really follow [the criticism]. But that's also not necessary because I am my greatest critic. And it is like it is. People prefer to talk about negative things."

Arsenal revealed news last Friday that manager Arsene Wenger will be departing in the summer after 22 years at the helm of the club.
