Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal is called up to the Spain squad for the first time since November 2013, to replace injured Jordi Alba.

Nacho Monreal has been called up to the Spain squad for the first time since November 2013.

The Arsenal left-back comes into Julen Lopetegui's side to replace injured Barcelona defender Jordi Alba.

The 30-year-old's international career appeared to have come to an end following his lengthy exile, but under the new leadership of Lopetegui, the door has been opened.

A statement from the national side read: "Arsenal full-back Ignacio Monreal has been selected by Julen Lopetegui and will join the squad in Shkoder tonight in order to be available with the rest of the squad for the game between Albania and Spain."

Spain were held to a 1-1 draw by Italy in Thursday night's World Cup qualifier.
