Jack Wilshere is fortunate to have been offered a new contract by Arsenal as his "career is drifting", according to former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane.

Roy Keane has claimed that Jack Wilshere's "career is drifting" and has warned the midfielder to sign a new contract with Arsenal before it is too late.

Wilshere has reportedly rejected the chance to pen fresh terms with the Gunners on a reduced salary, leaving him as a free agent in a little over a month's time.

The England international's display in the Europa League quarter-final second leg against CSKA Moscow, when giving away possession of the ball numerous times and struggling to shake off a knock before being replaced, has Keane wondering where exactly the 26-year-old's career is heading.

"You need to be fit if you're a top level footballer, and every time I see him he's getting treatment or he's carrying a knock," he told ITV Sport.

"I've never been a big fan of his, for an attacking player he doesn't get enough goals or assists. The guy's career is drifting, I don't like to see it, but as bad as Arsenal were he was really bad.

"Has he been offered a contract? If I was him I would sign it, because if he thinks he's getting big offers in the summer he'll be surprised. The big question about him, on top of what he lacks, is that he never seems fit. That's pretty important."

Despite Arsenal's below-par display on Thursday night, they snatched a 2-2 draw in Moscow to progress through 6-3 on aggregate.
