Arsenal boss Unai Emery says that club captain Laurent Koscielny is making "very good progress" in his recovery from a torn Achilles.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has said that club captain Laurent Koscielny is making "very good progress" in his recovery from a torn Achilles.

Koscielny suffered the injury during the second leg of Arsenal's Europa League semi-final with Atletico Madrid in May, and the France international missed the 2018 World Cup as a result of the problem.

The centre-back underwent surgery to repair the damage, and has now been pictured on the training ground as he builds back to fitness.

Emery has said that the 32-year-old "is working very hard", but has not put a timeframe on his return to the field.

"He is working very hard. Every day two sessions. We are happy to have him here with us because he is our captain and he is showing his spirit to stay with us," Emery told reporters.

"We need passion with him. It is clear he is very important. It is difficult to know [when he will play]. He is running, walking on the pitch. It is very good progress."

Arsenal will look to record their first Premier League points of the season when they host West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
