Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that midfielder Mohamed Elneny is likely to miss the remainder of the season due to ankle ligament damage.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that midfielder Mohamed Elneny is likely to miss the rest of the season.

During Sunday's 4-1 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League, Elneny was stretchered off with an ankle injury and it was later revealed that the player had suffered ligament damage.

However, while ruling the 25-year-old out until at least the middle of May, Wenger thinks that the Egyptian international will be able to represent his country at this summer's World Cup.

At a press conference, the Frenchman told reporters: "Elneny is out, certainly for the rest of the season. He will be available for Egypt but not anymore for Arsenal."

Elneny has made a total of 31 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions this season.
