Project Restart: Liverpool's remaining 2019-20 Premier League fixtures

With the return of the Premier League now less than a week away, Sports Mole looks at Liverpool's outstanding fixtures from the 2019-20 campaign.

It is now less than a week until Premier League football returns after a break of more than three months caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The outbreak of COVID-19 at one stage looked like threatening Liverpool's status as champions-elect, but Jurgen Klopp's side will now get the chance to wrap up their first league title since 1990.

The Reds currently sit 25 points clear of Manchester City, who are among the first teams back in action for their game in hand, meaning that the gap could have closed to 22 points when Liverpool get their season back underway in the Merseyside derby on Sunday, June 21.

That match has now been given the go-ahead to be played at Goodison Park as scheduled following the threat of it being moved to a neutral venue all the way down in Southampton.

There is a scenario where Liverpool could win the title at the home of their nearest neighbours, although they would need Arsenal to beat Man City at the Etihad in order for that to happen.

Regardless of what Man City do, Klopp's side need only six more points to secure the title, which means that their moment could come at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday 24.

After that, the Reds take on the current champions and their closest competitors Man City at the Etihad on a Thursday night where, if they slip up in any of their first two games back, they could also build a mathematically unassailable lead.

Liverpool then host relegation-threatened Aston Villa and travel to another struggler in the form of Brighton & Hove Albion before three successive matches against teams currently in the top half.

Burnley and Chelsea will both visit Anfield either side of Liverpool making the trip to Arsenal, and it is entirely possible that both Arsenal and Chelsea will have plenty more to fight for than the Merseysiders by that stage.

If all goes to plan, Liverpool would then finish an unforgettable 2019-20 campaign on July 26 away to Newcastle United.
