Arsene Wenger concedes that Arsenal were second best in the early parts of their clash against PSG, but believes that his side were good value for their point in the end.

Arsene Wenger has praised his Arsenal players for their "resilient" display in claiming a valuable point from their Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners were second best for large parts but were able to salvage a 1-1 draw in the French capital thanks to Alexis Sanchez's strike 13 minutes from time.

Edinson Cavani had earlier edged the hosts in front, taking less than 60 seconds to open his account when getting in between two defenders and nodding the ball home.

Wenger concedes that his side were off the pace at times, but were ultimately rewarded for their bravery when looking to get bodies forward to claim an opening-game point in Group A.

"We wanted to start at a high pace and after a minute we are 1-0 down. For 20 minutes we were outpaced, they started much better than us but we were resilient," he told reporters. "We played much better in the second half, they dropped a bit as well.

"We pushed very high and were vulnerable to the counter attack but it's a good point for us. Away from home you have to battle up front and Alexis Sanchez did well. He was isolated at times and in the second half it was easier for him."

Arsenal return to European action in two weeks' time when they take on Basel at the Emirates Stadium, before facing Ludogorets Razgrad in back-to-back games.
