Laurent Koscielny: 'Arsenal wanted three points from Paris Saint-Germain tie'

Laurent Koscielny admits that Arsenal's 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain is bittersweet, as his side were desperate for victory despite being far from their best.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has admitted that there is an element of disappointment to his side's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners fought back to rescue a point after falling behind to an Edinson Cavani header less than a minute into the match at the Parc des Princes.

Having failed to truly get going for large parts of the contest in the French capital, Arsenal finally managed to grab a goal in the final quarter of the match when Alexis Sanchez fired home from 15 yards out.

Koscielny, who handed his side a big fitness boost by being declared fit for the match, claims that Arsenal had set their sights higher than a draw from their opening Group A outing.

"I think it's a good point but we came here with our ambition and we wanted to have the three points, but when we start like this it's difficult to play," he told BT Sport.

"Maybe in the final third we didn't find the good ball to score, but we came back. During the game against Southampton in the Premier League we slept and we need to change this in the future. We need to be strong from the first minute to the end.

"During the game we were pretty well but if you start like this it's difficult. Sanchez played well. We found him between the lines. Both teams tried to play nice football tonight. It was a good game."

Arsenal also had Olivier Giroud dismissed in added time for an off-the-ball clash with Marco Verratti - the Italian midfielder also seeing a second yellow card for his part in the incident.
