How Argentina could line up against Uruguay

Sports Mole looks at how Argentina could line up for Monday's international friendly against Uruguay in Tel Aviv.

Lionel Messi will be expected to feature for Argentina against Uruguay on Monday night when the two sides meet in Tel Aviv.

The Barcelona forward returned from a three-month ban - handed out after accusing the CONMEBOL of corruption - to net the winner during a 1-0 win over Brazil in Saudi Arabia.

However, there is a chance that the game could be called off after missiles were launched from the Gaza strip on Thursday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Argentina could line up for the meeting with Oscar Tabarez's men.

POSSIBLE ARG XI v URU

Out: Roberto Pereyra (hamstring)
Doubtful: None

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni, with no major tournaments coming up, will know that the next year or so represents an excellent chance to lay the platform for a more settled team compared with the turbulent Jorge Sampaoli regime.

The selection of Tottenham Hotspur full-back Juan Foyth at right-back fits into this way of thinking, with the 21-year-old now on the cusp of becoming first-choice for club and country.

On the other side, Nicolas Tagliafico brings a level of maturity on the ball as well as an impressive ability to provide quick diagonal passes that progress play, while Fiorentina captain German Pezzella seems to be in favour under Scaloni.

While keeping his back four the same throughout the friendly with Brazil, the Argentina boss was highly proactive with his substitutions in midfield, and this is likely to be reflected by his selection on Monday night.

Leandro Paredes keeps his place, but the midfielder ought to be partnered up in the middle with Guido Rodriguez, who comes into the team in place of Rodrigo De Paul.

Two relatively senior players who missed out on Friday were Paulo Dybala and Marcos Acuna, with the Juventus man not receiving a minute of action. The pair will be expected to stay wide and serve as the link between midfield and attack.

Indeed, for a team struggling for an identify - or at least one that goes beyond getting the ball to Messi - it is baffling how a player of Dybala's quality only has 27 senior international caps to his name since 2015.

Lautaro Martinez partnered Messi up front against Brazil, giving an encouraging display, although it seems inevitable that Sergio Aguero - another player who played no part against Brazil - will come into the starting XI.
