The 38-year-old joined Milan in 1998 and has has made almost 400 first-team appearances for the Italian giants.

Just six of those have come this season following the emergence of Gianluigi Donnarumma, however, and the experienced Italian will bring down the curtain on his 22-year professional career this weekend.

"Abbiati says goodbye to football after 15 years at the club. Tomorrow [Saturday] come to the San Siro to give him a special send-off!" Milan posted on their official Twitter account.

Abiatti, who has won three Serie A titles with Milan, is expected to start Saturday's Serie A clash with Roma at San Siro.
