Result: Team GB's Aliya Itzkowitz reaches knockout stage

Team GB fencer Aliya Itzkowitz wins three of her four pool matches to reach the knockout stage of the women's individual sabre event at the European Games.

Team GB's Aliya Itzkowitz qualified for the knockout stage in the women's individual sabre competition at the European Games in Baku this morning.

The 21-year-old won three of her four contests in the pool stage of the fencing event to secure a spot in the round of 32 later this morning.

Itzkowitz opened with a win over Ukraine's Olga Zhovnir before losing to Sevil Bunyatova of Azerbaijan, but quickly put the loss behind her to defeat Alexandra Gevaert of Belgium and Russian Federation fencer Viktoriya Kovaleva.

The American-born fencer will face Poland's Martyna Watora later this morning.
