Great Britain fencer Richard Kruse believes that winning the gold medal in the men's team foil was perfect training for the World Championships next month.
Kruse was part of the four-man team who beat Italy 45-41 to win gold at the European Games yesterday.
"I think it is fantastic, and I just hoped we get a result and I know, we can get a result and I know we can be on the podium in the actual world championships in Moscow," Kruse told reporters.
"The lynchpin for our Rio qualification will be the World Championships in a couple of weeks' time. So we are still in a training phase. That didn't mean that we came here to mess around. We came in here to fence people because the training it will give us is brilliant."
Yesterday's victory was Britain's first fencing team gold medal at a European or Olympic event for over 50 years.
