Great Britain's showjumpers qualify for Rio 2016 Olympics

Great Britain's showjumpers qualify for next year's Olympic Games in Rio by finishing fourth at the FEI European Championships in Germany.

Great Britain's showjumpers have grabbed a place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, finishing fourth at the FEI European Championships in Germany this week.

Ben Maher, Joe Clee, Jessica Mendoza and Michael Whitaker failed to claim a spot in the top three, but they did enough to snatch one of three Olympic places available.

"It has been an important day for us," Sky Sports News quotes Maher as saying. "We had expectations coming here. We are a strong team.

"There was pressure today for qualification and to lead the team. It is a round I will definitely remember."

Ireland's quartet of Bertram Allen, Greg Broderick, Denis Lynch and Cian O'Connor narrowly missed out by 0.380 penalties.
