Netflix has revealed that more than 82 million households worldwide have now sampled its period drama series Bridgerton.
The period drama follows eight high-society siblings during Regency-era Britain and has become a word-of-mouth hit, already earning a second season renewal.
In a news release on Wednesday, Netflix announced that 82 million households had watched the show in the 28 days since its launch on Christmas Day, enough for it to already rank as the streamer's "biggest series ever".
"To be able to announce that Bridgerton is now the biggest series ever on Netflix is a dream come true," said Jinny Howe, Netflix's VP of original series.
"A record 82 million households around the world chose to watch Bridgerton in its first 28 days. And the show has made the top 10 in every country except Japan - hitting number one in 83 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa.
"Indeed, the success of Bridgerton propelled the books into The New York Times best seller lists for the first time, and 18 years after they were first published."
The second season is expected to go into production in the next few months.
