Captain Sir Tom Moore has revealed that he asked for a 'Do Not Resuscitate' order when he was hospitalised in 2019.

The World War II veteran has enjoyed an incredible year, being knighted by the Queen shortly after turning 100 years old for his efforts raising more than £32 million for the NHS during the coronavirus crisis.

Appearing for an interview on Piers Morgan's Life Stories, Moore recalled insisting upon a DNR when he fell at home last year, hitting his head on his dishwasher and breaking one of his ribs.

"I have always felt that if somebody is gravely ill and near to death to bring them back for them to die a very unpleasant death, why do that? If you have gone, you have gone," he said.

"I did not want to finish up in an old people's home without any facility of my own, having to be fed in every way. I would hate ever to be like that."

The episode airs tonight at 8pm on ITV.
