Disney chief insists Black Widow will get cinema release

Disney chief executive Bob Iger insists that Black Widow will be given a traditional cinema release.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has reaffirmed that the standalone Black Widow movie will get a traditional cinema release.

The film, starring Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, was originally due out on May 1, 2020 but has been postponed numerous times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest scheduled release date is May 7, which would make it the first big blockbuster of 2021, although most cinemas worldwide are still expected to be closed by then.

Talking about the film on an investor call on Thursday, Iger said: "We are still intending it to be a theatrical release.

"We're going to be watching very carefully the reopening of theatres and consumer sentiment on going back to theatres."

Marvel currently has four movies on its release schedule for 2021, with Black Widow due to be followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals and the third standalone Spider-Man movie.
