Exclusive: UK's first LGBTQI TV channel OUTtv to close after Pride weekend
The UK's first dedicated LGBTQI channel, OUTtv, is to close after just three months.

The UK's first dedicated LGBTQI TV channel, OUTtv, is to close next week after just three months on the air.

The premium service, which cost £9.99 a month or £99 a year, launched via Sky on April 1 with a mix of films, drama series, lifestyle programming and reality output.

Among the shows to receive their UK premiere on OUTtv included Drag Race Thailand, RuPaul's Gay For Play and Shade - Queens of NYC.

However, poor takeup of the service - as well as a changed landscape due to coronavirus - is thought to be the reason behind its speedy closure, which will take place on Tuesday, June 30 - just after London Pride weekend.

OUTtv, which operates successfully in the Netherlands and Canada, had lofty ambitions of cracking the UK market and had plans in place to launch a competition to find "the face of OUTtv" this summer before coronavirus struck.

The broadcaster has yet to officially comment on the channel's closure.
