China's Wu Minxia has become the first diver in history to win a fifth gold medal at the Olympic Games.

The 30-year-old and Shi Tingmao claimed victory in the women's 3m synchro by a 31.77-point margin over nearest challengers Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallape of Italy.

Their final tally of 345.60 included a session-high score of 81.00 for their final jump, the back 2-1/2 somersaults.

The bronze medal went to Australia's Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith, who edged out Canada's Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware by just 0.87 points.

Team GB's Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree could only manage a disappointing sixth-place finish from a competing field of eight pairs.
