Result: James Wade whitewashes Gary Anderson at European Championship

Gary Anderson is out of the European Championship after suffering a 6-0 whitewash at the hands of James Wade.

James Wade has registered a 6-0 whitewash over Gary Anderson to progress through to the second round of the European Championship.

The left-hander capitalised on last year's runner-up averaging just 77 to coast through to the last 16 in Hasselt.

Defending champion Michael van Gerwen survived one match dart against Simon Whitlock before prevailing by a 6-5 scoreline, while Phil Taylor recorded a 6-3 win over Alan Norris.

Justin Pipe missed five darts to beat Peter Wright before the Scot came back to win a last-leg decider, while Robert Thornton and Michael Smith were dumped out of the competition after losing to Cristo Reyes and Stephen Bunting respectively.

On a day of surprises, Kyle Anderson and James Wilson got the better of Dave Chisnall and Kim Huybrechts, with Benito van de Pas losing 6-4 to world youth champion Max Hopp.
