Result: Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor ease to Premier League wins in Nottingham

Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor remain top of the Premier League table after routine victories in Nottingham on Thursday night.

Phil Taylor has recorded just the seventh whitewash victory in the history of the Premier League with a 7-0 win over Robert Thornton.

The 16-time world champion has been in superb form in recent weeks and that continued in Nottingham as he trounced Thornton, ending the contest with an average of 102.15.

World number one Michael van Gerwen maintained his incredible standards of late as he averaged 113.47 to beat Dave Chisnall by a 7-2 scoreline, which keeps him level with Taylor at the top of the standings ahead of their match next week.

Adrian Lewis is in third place after he impressed in a 7-3 victory over Peter Wright, while James Wade is fourth after withstanding a late fightback from Raymond van Barneveld to run out a 7-5 winner.

In the opening game of the night, Gary Anderson registered a 7-3 triumph over Michael Smith.
