Michael van Gerwen records a 7-2 win over Peter Wright in Exeter to move to the top of the Premier League.

Michael van Gerwen has moved to the top of the Premier League standings with a 7-2 triumph over Peter Wright.

Last week, the world number one recorded a televised world record average of 123.4, and although he was seven points shy of that in Exeter, he still had too much for previous leader Wright, who had been unbeaten in four contests.

Phil Taylor continued his impressive recent form with a 7-1 demolition of Adrian Lewis, while Gary Anderson overcame a slow start to beat fellow Scot Robert Thornton by a 7-4 scoreline.

Michael Smith registered his first Premier League win at the sixth attempt with a 7-5 victory over Raymond van Barneveld, while James Wade hit a 161 checkout on the way to a 7-4 triumph over Dave Chisnall.
