Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane mount a 167-run partnership to steady the ship for India after three men were sent packing by New Zealand.

Virat Kohli scored his 13th Test century to help India on their way to 267-3 on the opening day of the third and final Test meeting with New Zealand in Indore.

The skipper narrowly avoided being run out one short of the milestone figure, with replays showing that he grounded his bat before the stumps were broken.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 103, while Ajinkya Rahane is also not out on 79 - a 167-run stand steadying India after three men went for just 80 earlier in the day.

Gautam Gambhir (29) and Murali Vijay (10) were sent packing early on, while only one wicket was lost in the middle and final sessions - Cheteshwar Pujara being sent packing for 41 runs.
