India recover after losing early wickets to post 239-7 against New Zealand on day one of the second Test against New Zealand.

India managed to steady the ship after losing three wickets in the morning session on day one of the second Test against New Zealand in Kolkata.

The hosts, who have a 1-0 lead in the series, reached stumps on 239-7 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

It was a shaky start for India as Matt Henry bowled out Shikhar Dhawan in the second over, leaving the opening batsman with just one run under his belt.

Murali Vijay was the next to go as he hit just nine runs off 29 balls before getting dismissed by Henry, who went on to claim a third wicket - Ravichandran Ashwin - during the day's play.

Captain Virat Kohli also failed to impress with the bat as he mustered just nine runs off 28 balls before succumbing to Trent Boult's delivery.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane kept India's innings alive by scoring 87 and 77 runs respectively before falling to Neil Wagner and Jeetan Patel.

Wriddhiman Saha (14*) and Ravindra Jadeja will return to the crease tomorrow.
