England have reached stumps on day one of the fifth Test with India on 284-4 after a century from Moeen Ali.
The all-rounder was dropped on nought but he capitalised on his good fortune with 12 fours during an unbeaten 222-ball knock that gives England a platform to build on in the final game of the series.
The tourists won the toss in Chennai but by the end of the 13th over, both Keaton Jennings (1) and Alastair Cook (10) had been removed cheaply but Joe Root and Moeen came together to put their side on the front foot.
Root put together a majestic 88 but he again failed to reach three figures after an India review led to him being given caught behind off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja.
England hit back through Jonny Bairstow, who made 49 before Jadeja picked up his third wicket, but Moeen pressed on to reach his fifth ton in the longer format of the game.
Ben Stokes (5*) joined him at the crease for the final nine overs of the day but he held his nerve to ensure that England ended the opening three sessions with the early advantage.
