England spinner Jack Leach is expected to be discharged from hospital on Monday after being admitted with a bout of gastroenteritis over the weekend.

The slow left-armer, who suffers from Crohn's disease, was a surprise omission from the ongoing second Test against New Zealand at Hamilton as the tourists decided to select an all-seam frontline attack.

He complained of feeling unwell on Saturday morning and has spent the last two nights in hospital, and his condition will be monitored before he returns home with the rest of the England group on Wednesday.

An England and Wales Cricket Board statement said: "Jack Leach's health has improved since being admitted to hospital on Saturday.

"He will continue to be monitored and assessed by the England medical team and the local medical authorities. He remains in hospital and is expected to be discharged later today.

"He will fly home with the rest of the touring party on Wednesday."
