Stuart Broad 'ready to do some damage' against New Zealand

England cricketer Stuart Broad warns New Zealand that he is ready to do damage in their first Test match on Thursday.

England cricketer Stuart Broad has warned New Zealand of his hunger to inflict some damage in this week's opening day-night Test.

The 31-year-old will be making his 115th Test appearance when the two-Test series commences at Eden Park on Thursday, although the seam bowler has not been told whether he will keep the new ball for the first match.

Despite only taking 11 wickets at 47.72 during England's 4-0 defeat in The Ashes in Australia, Broad is still confident that he can cause problems against the Black Caps.

"I'm really not sure which way we'll go [in the first Test] ... we're going to be slightly less rigid in the way we go about things, just to try to create pressure for longer periods of time," Broad told the BBC's Test Match Special.

"There has been no decision made on it. There's still a chance I could take the new ball. I think my action had fallen into a place where it needed repairing, after bowling so much to left-handers round the wicket – in training and in matches. I'm in a place now where I feel like I can do quite a bit of damage as a bowler again.

"I've got a great hunger to play. I've had a tough Ashes tour; I've got a lot of hunger to get in this England team, stay in it and have a lot of success. That certainly includes the next Ashes series ... at 31, touch wood, I've got quite a bit of cricket left in me."

Broad is just one away from a 400th Test wicket, and could reach the milestone in the upcoming series on Thursday.
