Usman Khawaja hits unbeaten 91 as Australia trail by 153 runs

England reach 346 all out before being made to toil by Australia, who closed day two of the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney on 193-2.

Australia closed day two of the fifth and final Ashes Test against England on 193-2 thanks to an unbeaten 91 from Usman Khawaja.

The day started with the tourists looking to build on their overnight score of 233-5 to which, after the blow of losing David Malan (62), they added a further 113 runs.

After taking their opponents' last five wickets before lunch, the Aussies seized the initiative as Khawaja recorded his highest score against England, sharing an unbroken stand of 107 with Steve Smith.

Australia captain Smith could not quite reach half a century before play closed, making it to 44*, though both he and Khawaja were put under little pressure.

England did manage to take the wickets of Cameron Bancroft (0) and David Warner (56), however, leaving the hosts 153 runs behind at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
