Adelaide will stage the first ever day-night Test match between Australia and England when the next Ashes series takes place next winter.

Cricket Australia has announced that Adelaide will host the first ever day-night Test match in an Ashes series.

The same venue recently hosted a day-night fixture between Australia and South Africa, but it will be the first time that an Ashes clash has taken place outside of the traditional format for the five-day game.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said: "We know how much Adelaide fans love this style of Test cricket. We're expecting a full house next year in what is sure to be a great contest."

Brisbane will stage the opening Test match before the teams travel to Adelaide, with the first day of the day-night contest taking place on December 2.

The remaining encounters will be played at Perth, Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
