Result: Joe Joyce secures minimum bronze at World Championships

Team GB super-heavyweight Joe Joyce secures at least a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships after beating Turkey's Ali Demirezen in Saturday's quarter-final.

Team GB super-heavyweight Joe Joyce has secured at least a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships after beating Turkey's Ali Demirezen on points in Saturday's quarter-final bout.

Joyce, who won gold at the European Games in Baku earlier this summer and also has Commonwealth Games gold to his name, had a stare-off with Demirezen at the onset of the contest, which set the tempo for the early stages.

Both landed heavy punches in a fast-paced first round, but it was a surprise when two of the three judges on show scored it 10-9 Demirezen, while there was also a 10-9 for Joyce.

The 30-year-old Brit came out firing in the second as Demirezen struggled to keep pace and all three of the judges handed Joyce a 10-9 to tie it up on two scorecards, and leave him ahead on the third.

An all-action third round also saw both men land big shots, but it was Joyce that put together the better combinations as he came through against the impressive and dogged Demirezen.

Joyce will box either Tony Yoka, who he beat at the European Games, or second seed Filip Hrgovic in the semi-finals of the competition on Monday.
