Anthony Fowler hails "special" gold medal-winning performance by Joe Joyce

Anthony Fowler leads the tributes for European Games super-heavyweight champion Joe Joyce, who took gold in Baku this afternoon by beating Gasan Gimbatov.

Anthony Fowler has congratulated fellow Team GB boxer Joe Joyce for his gold medal success in Baku.

The 29-year-old battled past Russian Federation's Gasan Gimbatov at Crystal Hall to be crowned European Games super-heavyweight champion this afternoon.

Fowler, who saw his Baku 2015 campaign come to an end at the last-16 stage earlier this week, took to Twitter to hail his countryman's "special performance".

"So happy for @JoeJoyce_1 what a special performance of determination and will to win that was, take a bow big man," he said.

Joyce also won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
