Frankie Gavin will still face Sam Eggington in Birmingham this weekend, despite failing to make weight on Friday.

Frankie Gavin has been allowed to face Sam Eggington in Birmingham on Saturday night despite failing to make weight on Friday.

In the hours leading up to the weigh-in, it was revealed that Gavin was several pounds over the designated limit of 10st 7lbs, leading to the former world amateur champion saying that he had been refused permission to shed six pounds in 28 hours by the British boxing board.

Ahead of the derby clash, Gavin eventually weighed in at 10st 9lbs 4oz, while Eggington came in at 10st 6lbs 5oz.

The WBC international title will still be on the line for Eggington but should Gavin win, the title will remain vacant.
