Result: Adam Nolan passes Carlos Sanchez Estacio test

Irish welterweight Adam Nolan battles past Ecuador's Carlos Sanchez Estacio in the Olympic welterweight class.

Irish welterweight Adam Nolan has overcome Ecuador's Carlos Sanchez Estacio by a 14-8 scoreline.

It was a fast start by Nolan, who seized the initiative in the early exchanges to open up a 6-3 lead.

Sanchez did show some threatening signs in the opener, landing a right that represented possibly the cleanest shot of the round.

Nolan continued to apply pressure in the second, but was still open at times as the Ecuadorian failed to give up lightly.

The Irishman had increased his lead to 11-6 by the time the third-round bell sounded and seemed happy to limit the action by moving around the ring.

Sanchez stalked him around the ring and a tremendous left hand shook Nolan, who was forced to clinch.

Nolan's camp did not look entirely sure of the result after a lax final round, but the referee raised the Irishman's hand.
